It’s a very exciting evening here in Northern California. It’s about to rain. It’ll be the first rain of the season. You can smell it in the air. You can feel the pressure and the dampness.
If I were a horse I would be running around kicking up my heels. I feel like a little kid.
I want to make hot chocolate and sit by the fire. I settled for making pumpkin cake with my oldest son. We added chocolate chips and pecans. We ate it while it was still steaming. I haven’t eaten something so decadent since before my surgery.
It is now pouring outside, quite a change from the last four months.
The ground isn’t soaking it up as I expecting. It’s an unusual rain for this time of year. It is a moderated rainfall, the kind that makes cars slip and slide on the roadway. There are big shallow puddles and steamy fog everywhere.

Beautiful photos! Rain in October is also rare here--it's our second driest month. We did get some sprinkles on Saturday though, but not enough to wet the ground. Probably blew in from your part of the world.

Aiyana,
Usually the first rain is pretty light but this is was a nice moderate rain. It was quite cleansing.

Wasn't that rain great! I baked Saturday...there's just something about the rain that makes me want to bake!

Aha, so that is where our usual rain has fallen. Here it's been very sunny and warm these last few days, not at all like our regular programme. ;-)
Decadent pumpkin cake sounds wonderful to me. ;-)

CREATING A BUTTERFLY GARDEN
Butterfly gardening involves planning your garden to attract, retain, and encourage butterfly populations.Flowers of similar colors grouped together are more attractive to both butterflies and the gardener. You should select a variety of nectar-producing plants with the aim of providing flowers in bloom throughout the season. This will entice a continuous succession of new visitors to a yard. It is especially important to have flowers in mid to late summer, when most butterflies are active. Flowers with multiple florets that produce abundant nectar are ideal.
