Five days before Mr. Wizard died, my family and I had decided to foster a troubled little cattle dog mix named Ribbon. Then, after Mr. Wizard died, my boys wouldn’t let me give Ribbon away. And they made me rename her. So, we named her Moondoggie because I like to surf and because she likes to surf the counters in my kitchen, also because none of us liked the name Ribbon.
Today, Moondoggie and I took off to take some pictures with my new camera for green thumb Sunday. We went out to an inspirational place where she could run and run and I could shoot and shoot.
When we returned home I did some gardening for the first time in weeks maybe months. This part didn’t go over well. My new dog couldn’t understand why—after a wonderful high-energy hike—I wanted to sit near a bunch of plants on the ground and fuss with them.
She just stared at me.
She would trot off and then come back in hopes I would get up and do something fun; for example pet her, run with her, feed her, scratch her, walk her, or maybe give her a doggie treat.
When none of those things happened, she trotted off again.
I am teaching her to lay down, fetch, and to love gardening.
She seems unwilling to love gardening.
Maybe I should call Cesar Millan.

Silly Moondoggie. She will learn in due time...

Perhaps you should train Moondoggie to help with the digging part of gardening?
(And I was very sorry to read about Mr. Wizard, so sad, I didn't know what to comment).

Katie,
I gardened a little today and she seemed to enjoy it a bit more.
Carol,
Great idea just as long as she doesn't do where she's not suppose to.

So happy you have a new dog, even if she's not yet converted to the joys of gardening. Glad to hear you are gardening too; it's good therapy! (I'm gardening the snow here, boo!)

Gardening is good therapy and we are lucky here, even though there is a drought, the weather has been in the 70's for the last week and a half.
Beautiful.

Chigiy, should we start calling you Gidget? Good luck with your new Moondoggie. I love how alert she looks! My daughter and son-in-law had some luck with teaching their dog to enjoy gardening, but they get winter so will have to retrain her in spring.

Annie,
Giget is my nickname.
My Kim calls me Giget and I call her Moondoggie because we surf together.
I asked her if I could barrow her name for my dog.
