What's In Bloom December 2007

Of all the flowers in my garden this month, my calendulas are doing the best.
They're going crazy. They think it's spring. I wish they were right, but alas, it's been getting cold at night here. Last night—and the night before—it dropped into the low 30's. Frost.
Yikes! I hope this isn't a repeat of last year.
Rain is on the way. The weather "experts" say that there are finally a couple of rainmakers on the way.

What's in Bloom May

I took a picture of my Passion Flower Vine which is starting to bloom. I finally have a picture of Passiflora to go with my post Frozen Passion that I wrote in January. My dog Mr. Wizard has been sitting in for the vine this whole time and he’s bored.

I was slammed for time so I just took ground cover photos and a couple of extras.

What's in Bloom March

It’s March 15th. This must mean it’s time for…What’s in bloom!

I am getting pretty pathetic with the camera lately.
Mostly because my eyesight has been slowly going since I turned forty-two.
Gone are the days where I could just hold something at arms length to see it.
Now I make my kids hold what ever it is and walk backwards until it comes into focus.
When I take pictures, I wear my reading glasses and use that little monitor on the back of the camera.
If it’s daylight I just hope it’s in focus.
If it’s really bright I throw a towel over my head and the back of the camera so I can create some shade.
My neighbors just walk by and stare.
Hopefully they’ll just think I’m someone famous trying to avoid the paparazzi.

What is This Plant?

Today, I took my longest run in 11 years.

I ran 13 miles—much of it up a fairly steep hill.

During my run, I noticed a wildflower that I’ve seen many times before. It blooms this time of year. I wanted to take a picture of it, and hopefully, identify it.

So after my run, I got in my car and drove to where I saw the best specimen got out, camera in hand. I limped over to it with my swollen knees and screaming sacrum, snapped this picture, eased myself back into my car, and drove home.

I thought it was an Indian Paintbrush, but after sitting on an icepack, scouring the web and looking through many books, I couldn’t find a picture or information on it.
