Has this ever happened to you?
A pipe broke in the sprinkler system in our lawn and a giant lump about four by four feet rose up and freaked me right out.
I had turned on the sprinklers and started to weed. I looked up, and my previously flat lawn had become a mound. I know this sounds stupid—but it actually scared me.
All I could think of was Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward in “Tremors”.
I ran into my house and screamed for my husband. “Honey! You have to come see this. Something weird is happening.”
It seems that the netting in the sod helped the whole sheet lift up from the soil, a lot like a giant worm under a green carpet.
Of course, as soon as I turned off the water, the lump went away. My landscape guy showed up a couple of hours later and fixed the pipe and all was well with the lawn once again. No giant worm with huge sharp teeth.
Oh Chigiy- you had a Sci Fi film in your own yard - how funny! You're a budding script writer, aren't you? You should have run for a yellow legal pad.
Since we have no sprinkler system or netting, if this happened in my garden it would be even scarier.

Annie,
Someone already beat me to that screenplay.
I could do one of my life. It would be somewhere between a tragedy and a comedy

Sally,
before we got it fixed and after we realized what it was, my husband and I started jumping on it. It was like a waterbed in our lawn. It was really weird.

Are you sure it was a broken sprinkler pipe that caused it? Or did 'something' else conveniently use that mound to lift up out of the ground for a brief moment to have a look around?
You really should be sure...

Well Carol,
What do you think? Did Nessy take a wrong turn at the Loch?
Danielle,
It was very bizarre.
Wicked,
I had never seen anything like it either, well at least not in person.

The first thought that came to mind when I saw the pic of your lawn was "look a pregnant lawn." but then when I read your Tremors reference I thought of The Simpsons.
In particular the episode where Homer is in charge of waste management and he starts letting other states dump their trash in Springfield. Soon they have large lumps like your lawn forming and trash spewing out like a volcano.
LOL, thanks for the laugh.

Mr Brown Thumb,
It's funny you should bring up waste management. The lump in my lawn just happens to be right over our leach fields. Ewww, ick, I don't want to think about it.
