Oh wait here’s another one, O.K., the first two columbines of the season.
This season, I plan to very carefully record the different color columbines that [grow during the year]. I want to do a garden layout and map the columbine colors in certain areas and then cross-reference them with the colors from last year.
I hope this will allow me to plot colors, leaf designs, and sizes for next year so I can create a blueprint that will be both harmonious and balanced.
I would like to create a landscape that is worthy of a garden design magazine. I’d like to be on the cover of said magazine, so people “in the know” will understand my garden savvy, and my vast horticultural layout and design expertise.
NAAAAH.
Whatever. I’m just going to enjoy the flowers, pick off the seed heads when they die back, and scatter the seeds so they spread somewhere else next year.
The colors are absolutely gorgeous. There are still no flowers here, but I'm filling my new growboxes up with compost-enriched topsoil today (well, two of my nephews are doing the actual work) and I could not be more excited.

I was thinking you were pretty ambitious to try and color coordinate columbines, until I saw that you were pulling our legs a bit!

One reason I love Columbine is that you never know where a seeding will establish itself in the garden. That second one you posted is a real beauty.
A blog is better than some magazine I wouldn't buy. Besides your vast horticultural layout and design expertise would only end up in a pile somewhere. This way it's preserved and I don't have to clutter the house with old magazines.

I'm planting some columbine this evening after work but they look quite different than the ones you have. I'll have to check again and see what variety it is. I took some pictures last night that I'll have to post soon. I've planted one like what you have but didn't have much luck with it. They are so pretty...one of my favorite flowers :)

These are beautiful. I learned I had no idea what a columbine was--I thought it was a totally different plant. I think i've been thinking of lupines!

Ahhh Columbine! I had several different varieties when I lived in Ohio. Not only is it fun to have different flower colors but there are many different flower shapes as well. I always liked the way Columbines welcomed in Spring. Yours are quite beautiful. As are your azaleas and rhododendron two of my most missed plants from Ohio. I think that is... in fact I know that is why I have so many oleander. That is the closest thing I can have in Arizona. Such a beautiful blog! I'm sorry to have read about your oak tree it is always such a sad and hard thing to lose a tree. Best wishes in all your gardening endeavors!
