My worm composter in it's new home near my fence.
The golden brown liquid that is produced from worm compost is called worm tea.
Honestly the name makes me vomit in my mouth a little, but it does wonder for your plants. It is probably the single best fertilizer for you plants.
There is one itsy bitsy problem.
Worm tea and compost attract moles. Yes, worms are the mole’s favorite food. So every time you water your plants with worm tea and the precious liquid spills out.
It’s like putting a fifth of vodka in front of Lindsay Lohan.
So we used to keep the worm composter on the side of the storage shed in our backyard. I have been feeling very overwhelmed lately, so I decided to clean out the storage shed.
I took everything out and then I noticed that one side of the shed was about 4 ½ inches lower than the middle. I pointed this out to my husband. He realized that our worm composter was stored up against that side of the shed.
With the help of my son, he pulled out the composter and moved it far away from any type of foundation.
They found that the ground under the composter was riddled with holes and a maze of mole trails, so much so that it had undermined what little there was of the shed’s foundation.
We now had to take out the old supports, dig out around the shed and put in a new foundation. Except there wasn’t any old foundation, just a couple of small of concrete tiles with two-by-fours laid on them.
Moondoggie checking out the mole destruction.
I think and I recommend that from now on, I’ll only use worm tea in potted plants kept on a solid base (not dirt).
Live and learn.
